Capital and reserve

Capital is the money you put into the business minus what you took out for yourself. Reserve is money set aside in reserve wallets, like a tax or restock fund. Neither is a sale, an expense or profit.

Steps

  1. To add capital, tap + (or Add entry) in the business and choose Capital in, for example "Added KES 50,000 from my savings".
  2. Pick the business wallet the money went into. If it came from your own money in Rekodi, turn on Taken from my personal wallet and pick that wallet: your personal account gets an entry "Invested in <business>".
  3. To take money out for yourself, choose Owner drawings and the business wallet it left. Turn on Put into my personal wallet to also record it in your personal account.
  4. The Capital card on the business home shows all capital in minus all drawings, with what came in and went out in the period you picked.
  5. To set money aside, open Wallets, add or edit a wallet and turn on Reserve wallet, for example "Tax reserve" or "Restock fund". It shows a Reserve badge.
  6. Move money into the reserve with Add to reserve on the Reserve card (a normal transfer into the reserve wallet). Use reserve moves it back out.
  7. The Reserve card shows what is in your reserve wallets now, plus what went in and out in the period.

Tips

  • Capital in and drawings change your wallet balance but never your sales, expenses or profit.
  • Only the owner or a manager can record capital and drawings, and only the owner can link a personal wallet.
  • Transfers between ordinary wallets are just moves: they show in your transactions but never count as capital.
  • Deleting a linked capital entry also removes its entry in your personal account.
